Nabokov on Being a Good Reader

Here’s a test given to Nabokov’s students, with his answer at the end. I don’t agree with s few of  his points. I think being able to identify with a character is crucial. See what you think.

  1. I agree with Nabokov. As far as identifying with a character…not so sure—there are many that are hard to identify with—Emma Bovary, Ignatius J. Riley (of A Confederacy of Dunces)…oh the list could get long…but maybe it depends on what one means by “identify with.”
