You couldn’t make this up – this is from the i paper a few days ago, headed ‘Why Kirk didn’t boldly go up against God’:
It’s the greatest Star Trek movie never made – Captain Kirk and Jesus Christ slugging it out on the bridge of the Starship Enterprise.
Gene Roddenberry, the Star Trek creator, envisaged and apocalyptic battle between an all-powerful “God” and his interstellar travellers in a draft version of the first feature film based on the cult sci-fi series. the Paramount studio refused to pursue Roddenberry’s vision of a clash between Jesus and William Shatner’s Admiral Kirk, a new book has revealed.
The original treatment for a Star Trek film featured a “God Thing”, destroying everything in its path as it headed for Earth, according to The Fifty-Year Mission, Michael Jan Friedman, author of around 50 Star Trek spin-off novels, said: “Kirk was slugging it out on the bridge. With Jesus.”
I’d pay to see that.
