The World in Black and White

It seems incredible in our modern age that it is even possible to still buy a licence for a black and white tv in Britain, but 9,356 licences are still bing paid, almost 50 years after the first colour transmission. Most – 2,222 are inLondon, with 429 in Birmingham and 313 in Manchester. This is from the i newspaper:

Jeffrey Borinskey, a tv and radio technology historian, said”There are hundreds of collectors like myself who have many black and white tvs; some of them are purists who son’t have this new-fangled colour TV in the house. We like the glow of valves, rich sound and wonderful warm smell of these old sets. It’s simply pure nostalgia and the joy of seeing old equipment still working int he internet age.”
