Tower Poetry

War is a time of destruction not of building, especially of churches, so the restoration of Barholm church near Stamford was a rarity in the time of Charles I. The following was carved to commemorate it:

“Was ever such a thing

Sence the creation?

A new steeple built

In the time of vexation

I.H. 1643
