The title of this comes from a piece of sculpture that was commissioned for the grand opening of Castle Park as an open space, part of many pieces to encourage visitors to this important park in the centre of the city of Bristol. This walking guide takes the reader on a circuit of what was the starting point for the city, with its castle and Saxon settlement beside the river crossing, the highest point that the huge tidal surge was capable to bring the ships in to port and then take them out again.

The walk takes in a surprising number of sites which still show ancient origins, from the sally port to the castle to the ruins of two old churches and part of the ancient castle itself. Hidden amidst the modern greenery is a memorial to the men of the city who fought in the Spanish civil war…
