Making Do With Little

One of the mottoes of the last war was ‘make do and mend’, and the Women’s Institute specialised in conserving limited resources. Here’s a group spinning wool found in hedges:

And this is a rug made from oddments:

And this is a patchwork quilt, a craft form that is now coming back, but not using leftovers, but you can buy pieces ready cut out in craft shops:
