“I Bind unto myself the Name
The Strong Name of the Trinity
By invocation of the same
The Three in One and the One in Three”
This looks to me like a spell bit it is from St Patrick’s breast plate, part of the modern Anglican service. As Eamon Duffy writes in Stripping of the altars, invoking the names of the holy to repel the devil has long been at the heart of Christian tradition, especially in rogation services, and in baptism. He denies such practice is pagan, ” instead, to represent the appropriation & adaptation to lay needs & anxieties of a range of sacred gestures & prayers, along lines essentially faithful to the pattern of established within the liturgy itself. This is not paganism, but lay Christianity.
Whatever you cebrate or nor in the coming days, hope it is a good one!
