Here’s a movement from the outer reaches of sensibility, so gloriously mad it works.
The Church of the Flying Spaghetti Monster was founded as a protest against Intelligent Design being taught in Kansas schools, and has spread to become a worldwide phenomena. They now have something like a million followers, with some actually believing in the other worldly creature that manifests itself as spaghetti and meatballs.
One Austrian ‘believer’ has included a colander on his head in his official driving licence photograph.
In Moscow, a recent Pastafarian rally was held to celebrate the application to be recognised as an official religion. People marched wearing colanders on their heads and waving various types of pasta. They proclaimed that ‘no dogma is the only dogma’ brought them into conflict with the police, and eight people were arrrested.
Not bad for something that doesn’t really exist, and shows how easy it is to annoy the Russian authorities, but we already knew that.
