Bay Lights

This is a rather extraordinary piece of art – in fact it’s the worlds largest installation – at 2 miles long.

I reallylike the idea as it combines two of my favourite things – light and bridges. Putting flashing lights on a bridge is far from new, and in Bristol, having lights on Brunel’s suspension bridge is an annual event at new year. But this is a complex programme of moving light, which looks rather amazing. It is completely funded privately, and will last for two years.

Part of me thinks there are better ways of spendng money, with the economies of the world in freefall.

But another part of me knows we all need art to lift our spirits in tough times, and this is one that is accessible to more than most.
