My brother was a huge fan of the Beatles, so of course I never liked them. Over the years I’ve tried to become a fan, but somehow the sheer weight of their popularity makes me want to dismiss them on principle and tune into some Tibetan nose flutes.
In recent years, there have been complaints that McCartney has lost the plot, that the Beatles oevre was too old fashioned and sentimental. which at times it was I guess, but the fact that he is still going after all this time, and often collaborating with people half his age gives him much kudos. He has become a respected elder statesman in a field where nobody was meant to get old.
He describes this new song, as being accidentally involved in a Nirvana reunion. Hmmm
what is interesting is how often he seems to be involved with serious networkers in music. I thinkt he first must have been his friend George Harrison, whose Travelling wilburies has to be the strangest supergroup ever, and Ringo’s all star band also draws together some odd but generally successful musical collaborations. Dave Grohl seems to be, with Jack white, the current generation’s big networker.
Anyhow, this is Paul with Dave Grohl, Chris Novoselic with ‘Cut Me Some slack.’ How many grandads can shrieked like that except when they have tripped over their zimmer frame? Go Paul!
I tried a few live versions but this is better. As Grohl describes it, heavy as F—
I got to say that Paul McCartney looks good for his age.
The wonders of plastic surgery.
